Hunter Thompson Raise Masters Review

Hunter Thompson Review: Is RaiseMasters Worth It for Capital Raisers?

One of the most respected voices on raising capital, with a clean record. The catch: shifting track record numbers, no published price, and almost no independent feedback on his funds.

If you syndicate apartments, you have probably heard Hunter Thompson on a podcast explaining how to raise money without chasing investors. He teaches that system through RaiseMasters and runs his own firm, Asym Capital. Here is what we found when we checked the details.

Our verdict: Mixed 6.0 / 10

The short version: Thompson’s approach to capital raising is thoughtful and low-pressure, and we found no regulatory issues, lawsuits or complaints. But his own figures for capital raised and assets controlled vary a lot from bio to bio, RaiseMasters pricing isn’t public, and there’s no published performance data for Asym Capital’s funds. Best for syndicators who already have deals and need a fundraising system.

Who is Hunter Thompson?

Thompson founded Asym Capital in Los Angeles in 2014 to place investor money with specialist operators. He became widely known through the Cash Flow Connections podcast and his book Raising Capital for Real Estate. His core idea is simple: attract investors with useful content, educate them, nurture the relationship, then close, instead of cold-pitching deals.

What RaiseMasters includes

RaiseMasters is a mastermind for people who already raise or plan to raise capital. According to its listing, members get weekly live Q&A with Hunter, a ready-made capital-raising system, and six months of coaching calls three or four times a week. A recent job posting shows each coach looks after 60 to 65 members at a time, so most day-to-day help comes from the coaching team rather than Hunter himself. Pricing is only shared after you apply.

Try before you buy: most of Thompson’s framework is in his book and podcast. Read the book first; if the approach clicks, RaiseMasters adds accountability and feedback on top.

What about Asym Capital?

Asym started by investing alongside outside operators in mobile home parks, self-storage, multifamily and debt, and podcast bios say its funds have also included ATM machines and cryptocurrency. The firm now says it has narrowed its focus. In one interview, Thompson put typical deal targets at about 8% a year, or roughly 6.5% after fees. We couldn’t find published results for completed funds, and investors in this model pay fees to both Asym and the operator.

Any red flags?

None on the legal side. We found no SEC, FINRA, state or FTC actions, no lawsuits and no consumer complaints. Feedback is thin rather than negative: LinkedIn recommendations praise the book and RaiseMasters, but there are no independent reviews on Trustpilot, the BBB or Reddit, and a BiggerPockets question about Asym’s ATM fund drew no investor replies.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Clean regulatory and legal record
  • Relationship-based, low-pressure method
  • Cheap entry through the book and podcast
  • Frequent coaching calls
  • Open about narrowing Asym’s focus

Cons

  • Track record figures vary widely
  • No published Asym fund returns
  • RaiseMasters price not published
  • Little independent feedback
  • Past funds included ATMs and crypto

Is RaiseMasters worth it?

If you already have deals and struggle to fill them, RaiseMasters targets exactly that problem, and its method is sound. Ask how much time you’ll get with Hunter versus his coaches, and get the price and refund terms in writing.

If you’re thinking of investing in an Asym Capital fund, ask for results on completed investments and a full breakdown of fees at both the fund and operator level first.
